During my years as a Marriage Celebrant I have visited
many beautiful locations, parks, gardens, beaches, cliff tops, clubs,
hotels, restaurants, reception houses, various luxury cruise vessels
including the Glass Island and The Pontoon.
I would like to share with you
some of my experiences and offer advice as to the advantages and
disadvantages.
-
Remember for all locations permission must be obtained
from the local Shire or City Council and National
Parks - In some instances a fee is charged.
-
Visit your outdoor wedding location at least 7 to 14
days prior to your wedding at the exact time and decide the best location
for your ceremony keeping in mind the shade, light and the best views for
your photos.
-
When having your ceremony outdoors, always have an
alternative (plan B) in case of inclement weather, usually your reception
venue.
-
Also when sending out your invitations indicate the
ceremony will start half an hour before the actual time. This caters for
guests who arrive late. Believe me there are many.
-
Beaches, cliff tops and Sydney Harbour foreshore, boats
and Shark Island are all subject to windy conditions.
All the locations listed are beautiful and have their
own special attraction and are great for photographs and I trust this
information will assist you in making the right decision so that your very
special day will be remembered always.
Boats Luxury Cruisers
There are many
cruise boat companies who cater for wedding ceremonies and receptions. They
are very professional and cater for your needs and wishes. Ceremonies are
usually conducted whilst the boat is in Farm Cove, usually the calmest area,
near the Opera House and Botanic Gardens. Depending on conditions boats can
be a bit ‘rocky’, unsteady and engine noise factor. Guests usually board at
King Street or Casino Wharf or Man-O’-War steps at the Opera House. I
insist the boat return me to one of these locations immediately after the
ceremony. Other boating venues are at : SansSouci, Bass and Flinders. Cruise Botany Bay
Sylvania Waters and Georges River. Cronulla Cruises at Cronulla. Cruise Gunnamatta Bay &
Port Hacking River to Audley
Chapels
To my knowledge there are three chapels in the Sydney
Metropolitan area.
- The Chapel at Little Bay, Malabar. Originally
built for the nurses located within the grounds of the former Prince
Henry Hospital. It is now owned by Department of Lands.
- There is a chapel located within the grounds of
Araluen Reception House at Epping.
- The Old St. Thomas Church at Narellan. Privately
owned. Perfect acoustics
